Steel Galvanization

Hot-dip galvanizing, or more precisely “hot-dip zinc coating,” is a technique used in the metallurgical industry to protect a steel part against corrosion by applying a layer of zinc. This process provides the protective coating with adhesion, impermeability, and mechanical strength. A part treated by galvanizing is referred to as galvanized.

Chemical Principles
Hot-dip galvanizing consists of coating and bonding steel with zinc by immersing the steel in a molten zinc bath at approximately 450 °C.
This process does not merely consist of depositing a few micrometers of zinc on the surface of the steel. The zinc coating is chemically bonded to the base steel, as a metallurgical diffusion reaction occurs between the zinc and the iron or steel at 450 °C. When the steel is removed from the zinc bath, several layers of zinc–iron alloys form on its surface, upon which the carried-over zinc solidifies. These different alloy layers, some of which are harder than the base steel, contain an increasingly higher proportion of zinc as one moves closer to the surface of the coating. The treatment must comply with ISO 1461 (“Hot dip galvanized coatings on fabricated iron and steel articles”).

Steel Pipe Threading

This operation consists of forming a helical groove on the surface of a steel pipe to allow the connection of threaded components, thereby creating strong and leak-tight joints in plumbing or industrial applications.
